A native of Richmond, Virginia, Charles was recruited in 2018 to manage a grant-funded pulmonary program in New Mexico where he specialized in the administrative side of grant management and pulmonary medicine. During his three-year tenure, he secured over 5 million dollars in federal grant awards, spoke at high-level seminars for the Health Resource and Service Administration, and published multiple manuscripts relating to occupational lung disease and COVID-19. Charles also serves as a Health Resource and Service Administration grant reviewer for federal grants in a variety of fields. In 2021, he decided to move closer to family and began work as an AmeriCorps volunteer for a re-entry program in northern Mississippi.
